EssentialBamboo, acacia or teak: what changes
Branded chopping boards in bamboo, acacia or teak each have a different look and feel. Bamboo is light, hard and pale in colour. Laser engraving comes out dark with strong contrast, which is why it is used for most models, from medium boards with a handle to large meat boards with a juice groove. Acacia is denser and has a warm, distinctive grain, so it looks as good on the table as it does in the kitchen. There are also handmade boards and trays made from teak root, using a by-product of that wood industry; every piece is different.
The size decides how it will be used. Boards of around 30 × 20 cm work for cutting bread, fruit or cheese; boards of 40 cm or more are better for meat or for serving in the middle of the table. Some have a handle, others a crumb grid so crumbs fall into a tray, or a groove around the edge to catch juices. The exact dimensions of each model are shown on its product page.
Which board to choose for each use
| Model | Best for | What it includes | Where the logo goes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bamboo or acacia board | Everyday kitchen use and larger giveaways | The board, with or without a handle | Laser engraving on the front or back |
| Meat board with groove | Carving roasts without marking the worktop | Thick board with a groove around the edge | Laser engraving on the front |
| Board with bread knife | Cutting and serving bread at the table | Board, sometimes with a crumb grid, and knife | Engraving on the board, blade or handle |
| Cheese board or set | Nibbles, meetings, year-end gifts | Board with cheese knives and fork | Engraving on the board; pad printing or resin dome on some models |
| Pizza set | Cutting equal slices and serving | Board with grooves and cutter | Engraving on the board and on the cutter handle |
| Acacia or teak tray | Serving nibbles or presenting food at the table | Tray; some include ceramic bowls | Laser engraving on the front |
The price on each product page includes 1-colour branding in the standard area. If you want the knife branded too, or a second side, we will adjust it in the quote.
How a wooden board is engraved
- Laser engraving. This is the technique used for almost all boards: it burns a very fine layer of the wood and leaves the logo in a darker shade, with no ink. It does not peel off or wash away.
- Front or back. If the board will be used for cutting, place the logo on the back or in a corner, where the knife will not scratch it. If it is mainly for serving, the front looks better.
- Contrast depends on the wood. On pale bamboo the engraving reads very clearly; on darker acacia and teak, contrast is lower, so a bolder logo works better.
- Set pieces. On the knives and forks in cheese or pizza sets, the logo fits in a narrow area on the blade or handle: the name or symbol is usually enough.
- See the finish before you decide. If you are concerned about how the engraving will look on a particular wood, you can request a sample before ordering.
Common mistakes when ordering custom chopping boards
- A logo that takes up the whole board. A kitchen board gets used more when the engraving is small and placed in a corner or on the back.
- Very fine detail on dark wood. Fine lines lose definition on acacia or teak. Use the symbol or a simplified version of the logo; we will flag this when we review your file.
- Expecting every board to be identical. The grain and tone of the wood vary from piece to piece, especially on handmade items. That is part of the product.
- Forgetting the care instructions. Wooden boards should be washed by hand and dried straight away; in general they are not dishwasher safe. Each model page tells you this.
When a board works well, and what to pair it with
A chopping board with your logo works well as a year-end gift, because it gets used at meals and gatherings at home; as a gift for clients in hospitality, catering or food, who use it in their work; and at food events. An engraved cheese board or a pizza set is made to be shared, rather than used by one person alone.
Pair it with items used on the same table: personalised kitchen accessories, such as cheese knives or a grater; a personalised bottle opener or waiter's friend; or personalised tableware for serving.
Why It Works
What enters the kitchen, stays.
A well-chosen home product is used daily and in front of the family. Compared to a desk item, it multiplies by five the times someone sees your brand, and it does so in a non-work context.
- Dishwasher-safe ceramics and glass
- Textiles with declared weight, not just 'cotton'
- Pieces that can be replaced within two years

The Detail
The dishwasher is the acid test.
We always ask the manufacturer for the cycle data. A mug that loses its logo by the tenth wash isn't cheap, it's expensive.
